Luckily, a broken thermostat is a relatively easy fix. First, make sure your thermostat is level, clean, powered on and on the correct setting. If you continue to have issues, it may be necessary to replace your thermostat.
One of the most common reasons for a poorly functioning air conditioner is a dirty or clogged air filter. Some units have reusable filters that may be cleaned while others will need to be replaced. Follow your manufacturers instruction on how to proceed with your unit’s filter.
Your AC unit has 2 capacitors. A start capacitor which activates the motor, and a run capacitor which keeps the motor running. If either of these pieces burn out or stop functioning, your AC will not run properly.
You may experience a coolant leak from your AC unit. The location of the leak will determine the damage level and cost of repair. Any size leak will cause fluctuating temperatures and poor performance.
